My self-directed project is about Down syndrome. Down syndrome is a genetic disorder; it results in developmental delays, low muscle tone, mental retardation, and other possible. I have picked this topic because many people especially in Middle East still depreciate those kids with Down syndrome. I am trying to convince people that just with some help and a lot of hard work any person with Down syndrome can learn and work like any other normal person. I have designed some posters but I thought of making them different because designers usually use black, white and other washed-out colors in their awareness posters, so I made mine different by using flashy colors that would help in attracting more adults and spread awareness. In my design I focused on using eye-catching colors because when anyone looks at a poster or a design, the first thing that would attract him or her is the colors. Adults nowadays like flashy colors so I considered this point in my designs.Also I designed a very simple flash website which includes my posters and some information about the campaign. I have contacted some associations but I didn’t get any reply, which really disappointed me, but I got some feedbacks from my friends, they liked them especially the colors which I expected. I could have done many other things for instance notebooks, brochures, short videos, T-shirts and other stuff.
